This impressive building is sitiated on Mound Place overlooking Princes Street at the top of the Mound. Built in 1859 for the breakaway Free Church.

The established Church met at the Old Tolbooth.

It is currently being used as the temporary home of New Scottish Parliament, until completion of the new Parliament Building's at Holyrood.

The Assembly hall also hosts the meetings of the annual General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and during Festival time the location is an impressive stage for large-scale theatre.
