FOUNTAIN CLOSE

This close, named for the street well adjacent to it, is the place where Thomas Bassendyne produced the earliest printed copy of the New Testament in Scotland.

It also housed the Hall of the Royal College of Physicians, in turn provided rooms for the publishers Oliver and Boyd from 1778.

It is now home to the Saltire Society.
