Damian Callan

I try to make my pictures as dramatic as possible, full of movement and strong, contrasting light.

I enjoy drawing and painting athletes and swimmers in motion because this requires an energetic technique: the charcoal or paint hitting the paper or canvas at speed.

Similarly my portraits, although the figures may be static, I attempt to inject as much vitality into the image as I can through the way I handle the paint, the pose and the light effects.
